The Kemetic Divinities

There are many different interpretations of who and what the Kemetic netcharu (neteru, netjeru, or divinities) are and are not. In many Kemetic traditions, the divinities are viewed as natural principles that govern the universe. While there are those who view the divinities as gods and goddesses that were created from a single supreme power or as archetypes. However, in Kamta, the netcharu are viewed as guardian spirits/spirit guides.

For instance, there is not one Npu (Anubis) but many Npus (Anubis), and they are crossroad and gatekeeper spirits whom we turn to when we’re feeling unsure about what to do. If you’re overwhelmed by too many choices or feel like there aren’t any options at all, Npus can help clear the way and guide you in the right direction. Npus specifically unlock closed doors, bring new opportunities, and pave the way for success, love, or money. They also guard the home, protect travelers, and shield against negative energies and trickery. They may also help you to outsmart your enemies and create chaos and confusion on their behalf. But, if Npus at any time feel as if they are neglected, then they will abandon you when you need them most.

Consequently, an altar space for the Npus may include an Npu (Anubis) statue, as well as a Papa Legba, Exu, and Saint Peter statue along with a skeleton key and other items associated with Npus. Each of these items are placed on the altar only after establishing a strong relationship with one’s aakhu (ancestors and spirit guides) and the spirits of Npu. This is the reason it is very important that you have a strong rapport with your aakhu and adhere to the principles of Ma’at.
