Like many people, my interest in ancient Egyptian or Kemetic Spirituality began as a teenager. However, the difference between most people and how I started on this path is that I was born and raised as a preacher kid in a traditional religious family. For the most part, my life was good, but when crack cocaine hit the streets in Detroit around 1986, that’s when everything changed. To escape the drug-related violence that was claiming the lives of young men, I begged God for his power, which he gave to me, but shortly after, I lost it. Angry and depressed because I felt like God had abandoned me, I became self-destructive, and that’s when I met what I know now as my first spirit guide, who inspired me to read and study the Kemetic religion.

Through my research, I learned that the Kemetic people practiced magic, which they called “heka” because they didn’t see “heka” as foolish or superstitious. Instead, the Kemetic people saw heka as a basic cosmic power given to them by Nebertchar, the Supreme Being, to help people connect with the divine and get through their daily lives. In my mind, this was the power of God that I had begged for as a teenager. The problem was that the Kemetic people did not leave any explanatory text (at least none had been recovered and printed) explaining how people could receive this power from God. 

So, over the years, I read and studied everything that I could find, including history, religion, metaphysics, psychology, etc., which led me to meeting some very fascinating and interesting people. Then, one day I became deathly ill, and I had to put what I had learned into practice to recover.   

It was through this experience that I discovered the Maa Aankh comsogram, which led to the birth of what I call “Kamta-Kemetic Shamanism.”
